Observations prompted by recent events

Nick Cave puts on a good show, and his Bad Seeds are fine musicians.

They should get a new sound person.

The best thing about music is when you can hear different bits of it, and it’s not all a horrendously muddy mess.

I always forget to bring earplugs, and I always regret it, because music is usually too loud and you need earplugs to hear it properly.

It was good to see Annette and JSR. They have a teeny-tiny house.

The Hitch-hiker’s Guide movie was awful, which was entirely predictable even if you hadn’t seen the reviews.

Bill Nighy was, however, a great Slartibartfast.

The other day I saw Dick Hubbard in Aotea Square, surrounded by a troop of stormtroopers.

I knew he wasn’t as left-wing as people said.

That’s Star Wars stormtroopers, not real ones. They had very impressive costumes.

Dick Hubbard’s Mayor costume was pretty good too.

A gear cable broke on my bike, leaving me with only three gears, one of which I couldn’t reliably get into. Unfortunately, the two remaining gears were the very high and quite high ones. This arrangement was best suited to going downhill, for which you can’t always rely on geography. I took it to a shop to get fixed.

The bike, that is, not geography. There’s nothing wrong with geography.

I had to ride the train again for a couple of days, which is nice in that you get to read on your way to work, but due to the vagaries of timetables necessitates getting up fifteen minutes earlier, and arriving at work fifteen minutes early.

I got my bike back today with shiny new cogs and chain, and it runs better than ever. It’s all geared slightly lower than before, which is nice for when geography gives you some uphill.

I also bought a little speedometer/odometer device. I don’t think we ought to call it a “bike computer”.

I had a birthday in there too, about which more later.
