Yesterday I went to a meeting of the Auckland University Software Developers’ Klub. At first I thought it seemed like a lot of very geeky people.
Then I won their geek quiz.
So apparently they’re just ordinary people like me, except that many of them don’t recognise Grace Hopper when they see a photo of her. It did seem to help a lot that I read Slashdot and that the quizmaster is a Mac user. We had dinner, and talked about UniCode, and online learning, and how evil patent laws have got. They seemed generally like good people doing interesting things, although they have inexplicably decided to meet to talk about them at 6pm on Friday.
The thing is, I’m finding recently that I’m rather tired at 6pm on a Friday, what with getting up around 6am every morning to get to work by 8am. I’ve decided that once the Fast is finished, it will be time to investigate biking into the city, to see whether it gets me there and back in less time.
