Length. Breadth.

Apparently it is not a safe assumption that everybody in a fifth form class remembers how to find the area of a rectangle. I feel the knowledge is in there somewhere.

  1. Goodness! Maybe they need to draw rectangles on grid paper, count the squares, and see if they can guess what the formula might be.

  2. It’s not quite that bad. They can do rectangles on their own, but some of them get flustered when you put two rectangles together to make an L.

    They’ve more or less completely forgotten how to find the area of a trapezium, but I was ready for that.
