Sometimes you read a startling headline, only to find on reading the article that it doesn’t actually match the facts.
Like this one from the Guardian:
US proposes world peacekeeping force
The first paragraph claims that Donald Rumsfeld “is discussing the idea of an international peacekeeping force”. It seems extraordinary that a man of his expressed convictions would back something so eminently sensible.
Alas, it turns out that he means “international” in the same sense that the invasion of Iraq was “international”. It would be outside of both the UN and NATO and operate under complete US control. So much for that.
