For the next meeting of the Christchurch Interfaith Society, we’ve invited some MPs (Ruth Dyson, Nicky Wagner and others to be confirmed) to speak on religious diversity and settlement of new migrants at our next interfaith meeting.

Anyone’s welcome to come along. Saturday, 16 August from 6:30 – 8:30 pm at the Refugee & Migrant Centre, 201 Peterborough Street (entrance from the parking lot).

For my part, I’m planning to ask them about the odious immigration bill that was recently reported back from select committee. It would allow immigration decisions to be made on the basis of secret evidence. This must be particularly disturbing for recent Muslim immigrants, who could be deported on the basis of someone else’s assumptions about their religious and political beliefs, in a country that doesn’t have a great track record on understanding the first thing about what Muslims believe.

Second Life
